NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

COMMUNITY FORESTRY ANSAB builds the capacity of local communities on forest resource assessments, sustainable harvesting practices, good governance, and linking conservation and economic development. These capacites help them to develop sustainable forest management plans that consider the existing status of the forest resources and focus on forest conservation in addition to ensuring that forest products (including NTFPs) are sustainably harvested and distributed among users.

FOREST CERTIFICATION
ANSAB assists Community Forest User Group(CFUGs) in obtaining Forest Steward Council (FSC) Certifications standards to bring new CFUs into the certification pools. Since the group certification model is unique and new to Nepal,ANSAB works to raise stakeholders' awarness. ANSAB also helps build forest resource managers' and certified CFUG's capacities to ensure quality forest management.

PAYMENT FOR ECOSYSTEM SERVICES
Under the activity,ANSAB facilitates increasing economic incentives for forest resource management communities who are looking after the conservation of ecosystems. ANSAB conducts research and pilots payment for ecosystem services in local, regional and international levels.

AGROFORESTRY
ANSAB promotes promising agroforestry practices with a special focus on poor and landless individuals who may benefit from these systems. The promising agroforestry practices help to conserve biodiversity, maintain ecosystem services and help attain poverty reduction goals.

BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION
ANSAB helps identify rare and endangered plant species and their critical habitats and facilitates conservation measures at various level. It develops participatory biodiversity monitoring tools to promote people oriented conservation practices.

ACHIEVEMENTS


- In 2007 , ANSAB's intervention has generated US$ 5.71 million in annual total monetary benefits (TMB) to 66,201 economic participants in rural communities.

- A total of 559 economic entities (involved in production, value addition, marketing of high value crops such as NTFPs at both the national international levels) were developed and strengthened through ANSAB's involvement.

- ANSAB has supported 45 value added processing and marketing enterprises in Nepal that have benefitted 14000 individuals.

- ANSAB has facilitated national and international traders and companies to develop market linkages with local communities nad producer's groups, including 19 buy-back agreements that have generated a total sale of US$945,728 which have benefited over 9,500 households.

- ANSAB has established and strengthened two regional and 11 district market information sub centers that use a network of over one hundred facilitating organizations to provide market information services (MIS). The centers and sub centers involved in the MIS network collect marketing information for 41 products, mainly from 18 markets in Nepal and India, to serve collectors, traders, producers and potential entrepreneurs of NTFPs and HVCs.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT



ANSAB's activities in this programs area include:

a) Enterprise planning and development: ANSAB's programs facilitate the development of effective community enterprise models and exemplary enterprises in Nepal. Community enterprise models are developed by transforming community institutions into enterprise entities and by improving access to enterprise development services for the poorest of the poor in the communities. ANSAB's role in the development includes: helping local entrepreneurs,farmers groups,Community Forest User Group (CFUGs) and cooperatives to identify their entreprise options, undertake feasibility studies,develop business plans,establish entreprises and markets, improve the quality of products, and gain certifications.

ANSAB assists three different types of enterprises:

i) Poor and women focused micro and small enterprises:
These groups are within CFUGs and farmers groups and primarily focus on activities such as collecting, cultivating and marketing NTFPs, processing allo and nigalo, making handmade paper, keeping bees, sawing timber, retailing groceries, supplying agricultural and veterinary services, farming vegetables and animals, and supplying raw materials to value-addes processing enterprises.

ii) Value added processing and marketing enterprises:
These business are located in rural Nepal and undertake activities such as making ahandmade paper, distilling essential oils, processing timber and fuel wood, producing bio briquettes, furniture, aloo thread, nigalo products and fabric, expelling dhatelo oil, marketing of community products.

iii) Natural enterprises:
ANSAB helps to consolidate the different enterprise' community products and assists major companies such as Himalayan Bio Trade (primarily on essential oils, handmade paper, and dried herb), Gorkha Ayurved Company (GAC) (primarily on ayurbedic medicines and food supplements from various medicinal herbs); teas, juices, and personal care products); and bio Fuel Supplier (on Bio-Briquettes) to access national and international markets.

b) Value chain promotion and its subsequent market linkage
ANSAB, through its networks,links communities manufacturing natural products (CFUGs) with producer (local value-added processing and marketing enterprises) and international buyers. ANSAB also collects and disseminates market information and facilitaes buyer- seller interactions and agreements. Sub-sector that have benefitted from ANSAB's involvement include. Nepali handmade paper, essential oils, selected high value crops (such as NTFP's), bio-briquettes, and timber.

c) Product Certification
ANSAB facilitates the product certification process (for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification and organic certification) for enterprises by providing certification trainings, developing production/management systems, and facilitating certification assessments, and annual internal and external audits.

d) Business Development Services
ANSAB facilitates rural community based forest enterprises'access to financial and non-financial services by linking them with BDS providers (including local resource person and community resource centres), commercial banks,micro finance institutions and other financial service providers and works to increase sales and gain access to new international markets.

e)Marketing Information Systems
Developed through multi-stakeholders'interactions and facilitated by ANSAB, this service collects and analyzes marketing information on various high value crops (such as NTFPs) and disseminates it to collectors,local traders, entrepreneurs and development facilitators through electronic, print and audio media. Service offered include: marketing information (i.e, price lists, directories, manuals), market study reports, online databases, and market strategies.

VISION
ANSAB has a vision of creating a 'rich biodiversity and prosperous communitiea." This vision includes rich,healthy and productive ecosystems that are actively managed and used by local communities that could address threats to biodiversity and advance sustainable resources management .It also incorporates community-based enterprises that adopt commercial approaches for natural products (from the production stage) that are environmentally sustainable and also increase the communities' standards of living and harness social equality.

MISSION
ANSAB is commited to biodiversity conservation and economic development through community based enterprise-oriented solutions. By carefully planning its services at the grassroots to national levels,and collaborating with key stakeholders and clients,ANSAB integrates and builds on local and scientific knowledge systems,innovations, prespectives, and opportunities for tangible impacts and wider replications.

OBJECTIVES
ANSAB strives to help poor households achieve economic security. As a first step,ANSAB intends to raise the incomic of an additional 100,000 hectares of forest by improving the community stewardship, management, and management plans of 1,000 community groups.

ANSAB (Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bioresources) is established in 1992 as an independent, not-for-profit, non-governmental organization working in Kathmandu, Nepal. ANSAB is committed to biodiversity conservation and economic developemnt through community-based enterprise oriented solutions. ANSAB has been a forerunner in its field for over a decade working in ecological, technological, economic and socio-cultural fronts associated with people centered conservation, management, and use of biodiversity, especially non-timber forest products (NTFPs), in Nepal.

Definition Of Ingo's

Definition Of IngoINGO is referred as the International Non-Governmental Organization which is a voluntary association of organizations or individuals for worldwide or regional action. There are two types of such organization they are:
1. Profit-Organization: Such types of organization work on the basis of profit gain.
2. Non-Profit Organization: Such types of organization work for the development sector.

They are mainly focused on focus on a specific set issues, such as hunger or disease, and can be funded by philanthropies or through partial government funding.

There are many differing opinions about INGO’s, however, about the success that various donor countries have had in providing a long lasting support to the country. Many developed country provide such types of assistant to the other least developed country. Especially they provide funds for road development, health sector, child education, fooding support, peace building etc.
As per the least developed and economically poor, our country have got many such types of INGO’s. The successful countries always provide Aid and Funds for different sectors. Such types of organization collapse after gaining there objectives.
